I was an active member of the Penn State Chapter of AWG for my five years there. I've served on the leadership committee as Secretary and Mentor/Mentee Coordinator.
AWG fosters the inclusion and support of women and other underrepresented groups in the Geosciences. At Penn State, we provide opportunities to undergraduate women. We have a flourishing mentor/mentee program that matches graduate student mentors up with an undergraduate mentees. We also lead events to help undergraduates prepare for their future careers, such as a grad school application process panel and a summer opportunities presentation (top left). We provide several scholarships to help cover the cost of field camp for students in the upcoming Penn State field camp class from underrepresented groups that have financial need. |
WeAreForScience is a science advocacy group at Penn State that supports accurate representation of science in policy, education and society, while also promoting diversity and inclusion in the sciences.
I have served as a member working in the Science Communication working group. We have scheduled events such as "Ask a Scientist" which facilitates conversations between early career scientists at Penn State and the general public in greater Central Pennsylvania Community. |
During my time at Penn State I participated in several community outreach events including Penn State Science U's Haunted U (left) and STEM Career Day for Women. I have also participated in several science outreach activities for local K-12 students at the Geoscience Department's annual "Shake, Rattle Rocks" outreach event, State College Discovery Zone community center and at local 4-H clubs.
